Welcome

The Wednesday Nighters are a groups of golfers who meet once a week during British Summer time at The Manor House Golf Club in Castle Combe. You may be surprised to hear that the "once a week" is actually in the evening of every Wednesday.

Format of Play

We all gather by the 1st (or 10th if available) tee where the Chairman will select various members to play in either 3 or 4 balls (although 5 balls have been known at the back of the pack). We play 9 holes of golf using the Stableford Points scoring system, making mental notes of any possible offences other players (or even yourself) may have committed along the way (see the pages on Rules and Fines for details). After all the groups have completed their round the scores are recorded and the Treasurer collects £5 from each player. The £5 is made up of £1 towards the "Best score" prize, £1 towards the "Nearest the pin" prize and the final £3 goes into the Wednesday Nighters kitty.

When the Chairman is ready, he will call the meeting to order allowing anyone who suspects an offence has been committed to explain the offence to the Chairman and let him decide of a fine is applicable. All money made from fines goes into the Wednesday Nighters kitty which builds up during the year with an aim to raising enough money to pay for the "all inclusive" end of season dinner, prize giving and drinking session.

New members

All members of The Manor House Golf Club (except ladies) are welcome to participate and we actively encourage other like minded golfers to join us. New non-members however are normally introduced by an existing Wednesday Nighter to prevent "just anyone" wondering in off the street and wanting to join in.
